New Coins of Rs.5/- (Nickel-Brass) with the theme – "Ashoka Pillar"


The Reserve Bank of India will shortly put into circulation new coins of Rs.5/- (Nickel-Brass) issued by Government of India on the following theme: -

';Ashoka Pillar';

Design :

Obverse : This face of the coin shall bear the ';Lion Capitol'; of Ashoka Pillar with the Legend ';सत्यमेव जयते'; inscribed below, flanked on the left upper periphery with the word ';भारत'; in Hindi and on the right upper periphery flanked with the word ';INDIA'; in English.  There will be 52 beads on the periphery.

Reverse : This face of the coin shall bear the denominational value ';5'; in international numeral in the centre, below that shall be word ';RUPEES'; in English and the year in international numeral.  On the top shall be the word ';रुपये'; in Hindi flanked on the left and right periphery a bunch of Lotus with leaf design. There shall be 52 beads on the periphery.

Serrations :  There are 100 serrations on the edge of the coin.

The new Rupee Five coin is a legal tender as provided in the Indian Coinage Act, 1906.
