Thank you for calling RBI. Nomination is a facility that enables deposit account holders or locker holders to register nominee in their accounts.
This facilitates easy settlement of claims of deceased depositor(s) as the banks are required to settle such claims within 15 days from the date of receipt of claim.
However, in case of a joint deposit account, the nominee's right arises only after the death of all account holders.
