The Reserve Bank of India will shortly put into circulation new Ferritic Stainless Steel coins of Rs.5 issued by Government of India to commemorate "Jagat Guru Sree Narayana Gurudev".
The coins shall conform to the following dimensions, designs and compositions namely:

Circular with 23 mm diameter with Security edges. Weight – 6 gms.
Ferritic Stainless Steel Chromium – 17% Iron – 83%

Obverse:
This face of coin of Five Rupee shall bear the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar with the legend "mel³ecesJe pe³eles" inscribed below, flanked on the left upper periphery with the word "Yeejle" in Hindi and on the right upper periphery flanked with the word "INDIA" in English. It shall also bear the denominational value "5" in International Numerals flanked on the left lower periphery with the word "©he³e" in Hindi and right lower periphery with the words 'RUPEES" in English. There shall be 72 (Seventy two) dots on the periphery.
Reverse:
This face of the coin of Five Rupee shall bear the portrait of "JAGAT GURU SREE NARAYANA GURUDEV" flanked on the left upper periphery with the words "peäeleäeg© Þer ôeeje³eCee äeg©osJe" in Hindi and on the right upper periphery "JAGAT GURU SREE NARAYANA GURUDEV" in English. There shall be 72(Seventy two) dots on the periphery.
Security Edge For Five Rupees: The edge of the coin of Five Rupee shall have security edge on periphery. At the centre of the edge there shall be shallow groove with a design inside the two sections separated by blank spaces. This design shall consist of chain of beads in relief and each bead being followed by one inclined line in relief. There shall be total 30 lines and 30 beads.
The Five Rupee coin is a legal tender as provided in the Coinage Act, 1906. The existing Five Rupee Coins in circulation shall also continue to be legal tender.
