The Regional Office of the Reserve Bank of India started functioning in Jaipur in 1954 initially from the Main Branch of State Bank of India at Sanganeri Gate. It only had a Note Inspection and Verification Section then. Later, in 1961 the Agricultural Credit Department was added to the Office. In 1962, the Public Debt Office, in 1968 the Exchange Control Department and in 1971 the Department of Banking Operation and Development were operationalised. In 1973, the Issue and Cash Departments started functioning. In the same year, the office moved all its departments to Anand Bhawan situated at Sansar Chandra Road in the city. It was only in March 1984 that all the departments moved to the present office building at Rambagh Circle. The Office building is unique in shape as it depicts a stack of coins and bundles of currency notes put together.
