RBI releases quarterly House Price Index (HPI)

The Reserve Bank of India today released quarterly House Price Index (HPI) on its website. The data can be accessed at (http://dbie.rbi.org.in/DBIE/dbie.rbi?site=statistics), RealSector> Price&Wages> Quarterly through the website: Database on Indian Economy (DBIE) (http://dbie.rbi.org.in). The data is available for All India and 10 major cities, viz., Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Kanpur and Kochi for Q3:2015-16. Data for Delhi for the quarter Q2:2015-16 are also updated.

Highlights:

  • HPI-All India1 (base 2010-11=100) increased to 221.7 in Q3:2015-16 from 218.2 in Q2:2015-16.

  • The annual (Y-o-Y) increase of HPI-All India moderated since Q1:2015-16. During Q3:2015-16, the rate of increase fell below 10 per cent. Previous low was in Q3:2013-14 when the rate of increase was 10.1 per cent.

  • On an annual basis, in Q3:2015-16, Lucknow witnessed the highest increase of 16.1 per cent while HPI declined in Jaipur (Y-o-Y change of -5.2 per cent).

  • Sequentially (i.e. Q3:2015-16 over Q2:2015-16), HPI of Kochi increased by 8.0 per cent while HPI for Bengaluru declined by 1.0 per cent.
