India’s evolving cooperative federalism is encouraging each state to contribute towards the national goal of ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’. The states are solidifying their unique strengths to drive economic expansion, which at the aggregate level would result into inclusive, balanced and sustainable growth of the Indian economy. The availability of comparable sub-national statistics at one place, across various dimensions, facilitates research and analysis at the regional level. In this context, the Reserve Bank of India has been publishing the Handbook of Statistics on Indian States on an annual basis since 2016. The importance of this publication is increasing with growing demand for state level analysis aimed at identifying policy challenges, suggesting decentralised policy interventions and conducting performance assessment. This is the 10th edition of the Handbook containing updates of the existing data series. Additionally, amidst heightened global uncertainty and renewed trade tensions, this edition expands its scope to incorporate a new section on the External Sector and 11 state-wise new tables viz., (i) Domestic Tourist Visits (under Social and Demographic Indicators section); (ii) Net State Value Added (Current Prices) (under State Domestic Product section); (iii) Net State Value Added (Constant Prices) (under State Domestic Product section); (iv) Status of Ground Water Extraction in India (under Environment section); (v) Revenue Expenditure (under Fiscal section); (vi) Capital Receipts (under Fiscal section); (vii) Market Borrowings of State Governments (under Fiscal section); (viii) Gender-wise Subscribers of National Pension System (NPS) - All Citizen (under Fiscal section); (ix) Gender-wise Enrolments under Atal Pension Yojana (APY) (under Fiscal section); (x) Exports (under External section); and (xi) Foreign Tourist Visits (under External section)1.
