The Reserve Bank of India hosted the sixteenth C.D. Deshmukh Memorial Lecture on April 11, 2017 in Mumbai. The lecture was delivered by Professor Willem Buiter, Global Chief Economist, Citigroup. Governor Dr. Urjit R. Patel welcomed the guests and highlighted the significance of the C.D. Deshmukh Memorial Lecture series instituted by the Reserve Bank of India in 1984. Professor Willem Buiter has held full-time academic appointments at Princeton, University of Bristol, University of Amsterdam, London School of Economics and Political Science, Yale and Cambridge. He is an adjunct Professor of Economics at the School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA), Columbia University and was formerly member of the Monetary Policy Committee of the Bank of England and Chief Economist and Special Counsellor to the President, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, London. He was recognised by the Royal Society of Sciences of Holland in 2013 for significant contributions to the field of macroeconomic research, fiscal and monetary policy.
