Bhopal office of the Reserve Bank of India is located at Madhya Pradesh - "Heart of India" because of its location is in the centre of the country. The Regional Office of the Reserve Bank started functioning in Indore in 1959 with one department, namely, Agricultural Credit Department. The office was shifted to Bhopal in March 1983 and functioned from the Apex Bank building till April 1991. After this, the office shifted to its current location at Hoshangabad Road. At present, the Regional Office at Bhopal looks after currency management in the State of Madhya Pradesh and supervises the commercial banks, payment and settlement system related supervision, non-banking financial companies, miscellaneous non-banking companies and other financial intermediaries located in the states of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
